Who do you want to become when you grow up?

“Who do you want to become when you grow up? ”
This started when I was a kid. And I didn’t have a perfect answer.
I wanted to be a scientist, a musician, a teacher, a psychologist and so on.

Then at every stage, different people asked different questions to which I never had a perfect answer. It took me really long to realise that all of them fall in the same category.

What’s your goal?
What destination do you have in mind? Where do you finally want to be?
What is your dream job?
When and where are you going to settle down?

When I was in high school, my dream destination was the best college I knew. When I went to college, my dream destination changed as I got a larger view of the world. When I graduated, I wanted to live in any far away city where I could experience new culture, meet new people, make new friends, eat new food. When I had lived in a number of such cities, I want to go to a far away country for the same reasons.

When I was in planes, I wanted to climb mountains. When I was in mountains, I wanted to dive in the ocean. When I did that, I wanted to dive in another bluer ocean.
When I do that, I will have another dream dive or a dream mountain to climb.
But how can I climb my dream mountain and be content with it? I will then have to climb a taller, tougher mountain.

The same goes true with a dream job, a goal we are chasing. We will not be satisfied or feel contented after we get there. For every position, every place comes with a new horizon. It may be the goals and responsibilities that the dream job brings with it, it can be the struggle a dream college brings with it, it can be making new friends or being a part of community in a new city.
And chasing those horizons is what makes life interesting.

There is no destination. I never want to settle down.
And I don’t want to become a single character in a single story when I grow up.
